James TW took time out of his busy touring schedule to chat to boohooMAN about his music, touring, everyday life and what’s in store for 2017.<\/p>\n
You\u2019re currently on tour with Shawn Mendes. How did you react when you received the news they wanted you as the warm-up act for the tour?<\/strong><\/p>\n I was delighted. I knew this tour would be a great opportunity for me to grow and develop as an artist so I was so excited when I heard the news.<\/p>\n What\u2019s the best part about being on tour?<\/strong><\/p>\n Being able to wake up in a new place every day is a cool thing. I get to discover cities the same way my friends are doing on gap years right now which I wouldn’t have time for otherwise.<\/p>\n \u00a0What\u2019s the worst part?<\/strong><\/p>\n Missing people close to me.<\/p>\n \u00a0How do crowds differ from country to country?<\/strong><\/p>\n Some are louder from the start of the show whilst some take a little more time to get there. Either way they’re all great.<\/p>\n When did you realise that you could make a career in music?<\/strong><\/p>\n When I was 15 I was playing in local pubs and clubs every weekend and I’d been writing songs for a few years. One day my dad told me he thought I could get signed and I really trusted his opinion so I kept pushing to get better and luckily an opportunity came my way.<\/p>\n \u00a0Who\u2019s your biggest inspiration in music?<\/strong><\/p>\n I’ve learnt so much off John Mayer from his guitar playing and his lyrics.<\/p>\n If you could collaborate with one other artist, past or present, who would it be?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n I would collaborate with James Taylor. My dad named me after him and he is also a phenomenal musician, singer and lyricist.<\/p>\n What are some of the most memorable events and venues you\u2019ve played?<\/strong><\/p>\n My first headline show in London at the Islington Academy. Playing the Air Canada Centre with Shawn Mendes and my first ever gig as a drummer for my dad’s wedding band when I was 10.<\/p>\n What does a typical day in the life of James TW look like when you\u2019re not creating music?<\/strong><\/p>\n When I’m not writing I’ll either be playing a show or doing promo. Usually this involves interviews, traveling and performing.<\/p>\n \u00a0Are you playing or attending any festivals this summer?<\/strong><\/p>\n Yes, I’m playing at Pink Pop, Firefly & Bravalla to name a few.<\/p>\n What is your festival outfit?<\/strong><\/p>\n I have never been to a festival before so I’m gonna have to find out through trial and error.<\/p>\n \u00a0Are you going on a lad\u2019s holiday this year? If so where?<\/strong><\/p>\n I am not! Haha. Although some of my mates make the effort to come and see my shows in the UK which I appreciate.<\/p>\n \u00a0Being a musician, you must have your pick of the girls, but what\u2019s your best chat up line?<\/strong><\/p>\n I have zero chat up lines. Pathetic right?<\/p>\n Drink of choice on a night out?<\/strong><\/p>\n It has to be Peroni.<\/p>\n \u00a0Favourite film?<\/strong><\/p>\n About Time.<\/p>\n \u00a0Can you give any advice to those wanting to make it as a musician?<\/strong><\/p>\n If you want to become a musician I’d use every source you can to become better. For me I watched YouTube tutorials on how to play songs and solos all day. The internet is an amazing platform so once you feel comfortable put some videos up of yourself playing.<\/p>\n \u00a0Describe yourself in three words?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n British, honest and motivated<\/p>\n Describe your style?<\/strong><\/p>\n Classic.
