We caught up with lead singer of Enter Shikari<\/a>, Rou Reynolds<\/a>, to talk about their new album, European tour, musical influences and new year’s resolutions.<\/p>\n

How did Enter Shikari meet?<\/strong><\/p>\n

We\u2019ve known each other since primary school. I think our friendships truly began after a game of rounders with another school that descended into an all-out brawl. Either that or at after school recorder class. You\u2019ve never heard four guys make recorder\u2019s squeal more pleasurably.<\/p>\n

What does Enter Shikari mean\/how did you come up with the name?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Shikari means hunter in various Indian languages. I became aware of the word as a kid as my uncle had a boat of the same name. He\u2019s lost at sea, never came back, but he died doing what he loved and that\u2019s what we\u2019re doing with this band. Getting lost (albeit in music) and slowly dying, (one onstage collision at a time), doing what we love.<\/p>\n

Describe Enter Shikari\u2019s sound?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Woke pop cuz. But to be more specific, we\u2019re part of that long lineage of British music that spans back from The Beatles through to The Sex Pistols, New Order, Blur, The Prodigy, we sound like a mash up of all that with added influences from UK dance music, jungle; garage; drum & bass, it\u2019s a pretty eclectic sound basically.<\/p>\n

Who would you consider to be your biggest musical influence?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Bowie perhaps. Definitely philosophically at least. That thirst to progress, the need to evolve, it’s very important to me.<\/p>\n

Name three artists you had on your playlist growing up?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I grow up on a lot of Motown and northern soul as my dad was a DJ and had boxes of the stuff on vinyl. The Four Tops, Edwin Starr, Chairman Of The Board.<\/p>\n

Greatest album of all time?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Christ on a crocodile, that\u2019s a tough one mate. The Spark by Enter Shikari I\u2019d say.<\/p>\n

If Enter Shikari could collaborate with anyone, past or present, who would you want?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Igor Stravinsky. I\u2019d love to get into his head.<\/p>\n

You\u2019ve released your latest album, The Spark, how long did it take to record?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

We did it on and off over a period of about 6 months.<\/p>\n

Which is your favourite song from the album?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Changes all the time, I\u2019d say at the moment it\u2019s The Sights. We\u2019ve finished touring the UK and that was our opener, it went off every night.<\/p>\n
