We caught up with Fekky ahead of his new single release to talk about music, festivals, fashion and much more…

How did you first getting into grime/rap music?

I use to get into a lot of trouble when I was younger. One of my friends use to make music, I took a liking to it and never looked back.

When did you realise you could make a career in music?

I dropped a freestyle on BBC Radio every label was after me, offering all types of money and I couldn’t believe this sort of money was being given to people from where I’m from. It let to me realise this could be a career  choice.

Where and when was your first ever live set? And how did it go?

Wiley asked me to go on tour and it was so sick.

How do you think grime/rap has competed against other music genres over the past 5 years?

It’s really come to light all the hard work everyone put in over last 20 years has paid off, seeing artists charting along pop acts and performing at the Royal Albert Hall.

Where do you see grime/rap music in the next 5 years?

All I know it’s going to be positive and bigger.

If you could collaborate with one other artist past or present, who would it be?

In the past it has to be 2 Pac. The present will be 50 Cent

You’ve just dropped your new single One More Time ft. Run Town. How did the collaboration come about?

He DM me on Instagram telling me he was a fan of my work. It was funny because I had also been playing his songs (energy) for a while. I guess that’s the law of attraction. We sent a couple tracks back and forth and now we have 2 out that are both doing really well.

How happy are you with the finished track?

I’m over the moon! I always want to listen to it One More Time.

Why should people go and listen to it?

It’s a different side to Fekky which I feel people haven’t got to know properly yet also, it’s a good song to end your summer nights to.

All these new singles dropping, does this mean an album and a possible tour is on the way?

I’m not sure time will tell, I just want to drop music and have fun for now. The amount of music I have I could drop 3 albums.

Where can we see you playing next?

I’m at Reading and Leeds festival.

What’s your favourite thing about playing festivals?

It’s just being able to feel the energy that music gives to crowds. When you come to a Fekky show it’s an experience I stand by that.

What about a lad’s holiday?

It’s a hard one because I travel so much, feel like my life is a holiday.

What’s been your summer highlight?

F Music.

What’s been your career highlight?

So far, my first FITB or performing on national television.

How do you spend your time away from the studio?

I live life, experiences give more to write about

Drink of choice on a night out?

I’d say water with little bit of champagne.

Favourite TV series/Film?

Power

Football club?

Manchester United

Who’s going to win the premier league?

Manchester United

What’s or who is your fashion and style influence?

Myself

Finally, words of wisdom for those wanting to make it in music…

Integrity is key, don’t procrastinate. Never give up you never know what can happen… or you can come to F music baby!
