MAN On Campus Student City Guide: Manchester

Ok, we are going to do our very best to not be biased here, but, Manchester IS the best place in the world. Obviously, it’s the spiritual home of boohooMAN. Half of the team went to uni here in Manchester and made the decision to stick around post-uni. From the edgy bars and shops of the northern quarter to all the delicious restaurants and cafés, Manchester student life is like no other.

TO EAT:

Yard and Coop

The self-proclaimed ‘home of buttermilk fried chicken’ is one of Manchester’s best casual dining spots. With 10% student discount all-day erry-day, and £5 Lunch deal menu Mon-Fri, you can look after those precious pennies.  Pick you chicken from breast, thighs, drumsticks to nuggets. Next select your sauce from hot ‘n’ spicy to barbecue. And finish with some fries pimped your way. I also challenge you NOT to order a sexy side dish. From halloumi nuggets and homemade chicken gravy to rival Colonel Sanders’. It’s almost impossible.

TO DRINK:

The Font

Students in Manchester will not have a bad word to say about this place. £2 cocktails. Yes, I repeat, £2! If you’re a student with a sweet tooth or after an alcohol-infused sugar fix, then The Font is the spot. Head to either New Wakefield St or the student populated area of Fallowfield, for Font favourites including the Jammie Dodger. With Vodka, Amaretto, vanilla, strawberry, raspberry and cranberry juice and topped with (you guessed it), a Jammie Dodger.

TO DANCE

The Warehouse Project

If you haven’t heard of the Warehouse Project, then where have you been? We’re assuming under a rock. For 12 weeks from September to New Year the city is taken over by the biggest house, techno and drum and bass DJ’s every weekend. Not technically a student night but it’s an underground experience that every Manchester uni student needs to witness.

TO PLAY:

Affleck’s Palace

A four-storey indoor market with everything you could possibly imagine all under one roof. With piercing and tattoo parlours, fancy dress and vintage shops, retro gaming, toy and sweet shops and music and record stores. For a fun thing to do in Manchester, you’re sure to find something weird and wonderful here, even if just window shopping on an idle Sunday.  You may also want to check out the Black Milk Cereal café while you’re there, with Triple Oreo Cheesecake freakshakes.
