We are wishing a happy birthday to some serious lad legends today, David Beckham and Dwayne Johnson.
The guys have gained copious amounts world-wide fame. Whether it’s through sport, fashion, films or alcohol, the two stars are highly respected on a global scale and icons to millions. Before they were creating clothing lines or starring in films, the two gained incredible success in their sporting careers.
In 1996, Dwayne Johnson gained mainstream media as ‘Rocky Mavia’, but was later named ‘The Rock’ shortly after. He became of crowd favourite within a matter of fights and was pushed as a face and personality for the World Wresting Federation. Dwayne is considered one of the greatest wrestlers of all time; from 1996 to 2004 the wrestler from California won 17 championships in WWE, including ten as a world champion. He also returned to WWE from 2011 to 2013 on a part-time contract to make irregular non-wrestling appearances for the organisation.
We all know that Beckham is one of the world’s greatest footballers. Former England and Manchester United captain, the 42 year old racked up some impressive awards throughout his career. A main contributor to 3 FA Cups, 7 Premier Leagues, UEFA Champions League and La Liga victories, Becks has also won PFA Player of the Year Award, UEFA Most Valuable Player, BBC Sports Personality of the Year plus many more.
One thing is for sure, they seem to be getting better with age. At 45 years old, ‘The Rock’ is still being cast for roles in films such as Baywatch, where we are pretty sure we’ll see the aesthetic beast running in slow motion, topless with his muscles oiled up, when the film is released later this month. His physique was also a main talking point from the film ‘Pain and Gain’ in which he starred along side Mark Wahlberg.
He first got a taste for acting in 2002, before his wresting career ended, in The Scorpion King. Whether it was the thrill of acting or the world record he set for being the highest paid actor in his first starring role, Dwayne decided acting was his next challenge. He has since appeared in countless films and became a face of the Fast & Furious Franchise as FBI agent Luke Hobbs. In 2013, Dwayne listed number 25 in Forbes Top 100 Most Powerful Celebrities in the world and was the world’s highest paid actor of 2016. So maybe it was the money that took him down the acting path.
Off the big screen, The Rock has been identified as one of the most influential people in fitness and has been named ‘Man of the Century’ by sports magazine, Muscle & Fitness. The guy is constantly hitting the gym and posts his early morning grinds, intense training sessions and immense meals on his social media accounts. He’s collaborated with some major fitness brands and has started to release fitness apps such as his alarm clock app, that received more than one million downloads in its first week.
After football, David Beckham made a name for himself in fashion, and being married to Victoria Beckham, became one of the most sought after faces in the industry. Dubbed as the ultimate ‘metrosexual’ man, Beckham promoted the well-maintained look and became a style and fashion icon to millions of men around the world, and continues to do so. He has a number of fragrances and his own authentic heritage clothing line.
Other than being a style icon to millions, he’s also kickin’ back and relaxing with his four kids, some of who have already been noticed for their style and have followed in their parent’s footsteps into the fashion industry. He loves posting pictures of him and his kids on social media and as well as being the ultimate ‘metrosexual’ male, he looks like the ultimate dad.
As well as being the coolest dad in the world, Becks seems to be living up his retirement days doing all the things he couldn’t do as a footballer. And a good job too, nobody wanted ‘golden boot’ getting injured. Again, he’s been uploading plenty of videos and pictures on social media of him snowboarding, riding his beloved old school motorbikes and pretty much living it up around the globe.
