Huddersfield will be re-joining the Premier League for the first time in 45 years, after their nail biting penalty shoot-out victory saw them raise the trophy at Wembley on Monday.

In a goalless 120 minutes, it was down to the penalty spot to see which club would be joining fellow Championship teams, Brighton and Newcastle, in the Premier League 2017/18 season.

Having beaten Sheffield Wednesday on spot-kicks in the semi-finals, underdogs Huddersfield kept their cool to win 4-3. Jordan Obita had the chance to put the promotion in Reading’s favour, but failed to put the ball past Dany Ward with a poor effort which left it 3-3. Christopher Schindler stepped up for the ‘Terriers’ to place a low shot into the bottom left-hand corner, and send Huddersfield into the Premier League.

The new season starts on the weekend of August 12 and 13, so now all us football fans can do is sit and wait. However, we can get a bit excited on June 14th as the game list for next season is released, so you can book those important weekends off work or start planning your excuses of why you’re ‘busy that weekend’.
