Leicester trail going into the second leg of the quarter-finals of the Champions League, but they leave Madrid believing they are still very much in the running of making it to the next stages of the cup.

The Foxes coped well against the La Liga side and Atlético boss, Diego Simeone’s pass it to bloody Griezmann strategy. The defensive concentration from Leicester restricted Atlético from breaking through the back four, limiting them to shots outside the penalty area.

It was from an awful refereeing decision that allowed the Spanish score the opener from the penalty spot. Marc Albrighton’s foul on Antoine Griezmann was given inside the box, when replays show the challenge was clearly outside of the area. The French forward sent Kasper Schmeichel the wrong way putting it in the bottom left corner.

Just the one goal separates the two teams who meet again for round two next week. Atlético  Madrid, a team who’ve reached the Champions League final twice in the last three years, travel to the King Power stadium on Tuesday, 18th April to try and secure the place in the semi-finals.

In other Champions League news; Monaco lead Dortmund after a nail biting, down to the wire 3-2 win and Real Madrid managed to bring back a 1-2 win courtesy of two second-half Ronaldo goals. In a game of two halves, the La Liga leaders went 1-0 down in the first but a Bayern red card and Ronaldo’s 99th & 100th European goals give his side the advantage in the replay at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.
