It’s happening. It’s actually happening!
Mayweather has officially signed the contact to allow him and Connor McGregor to go head to head for 12 rounds. The former multi-division boxing world champion will face the UFC lightweight champion in Las Vegas on August 26th, in what is going to be the most hyped fighting event of the year.
The news comes after both fighters took to social media last night to confirm the news that eager fans around the globe have been waiting for. The announcement has finally put to bed the rumours that started almost two years ago, and the constant back and forth videos of the two calling each other out on social media. Well, having said that, we’re sure the announcement will only fuel more heated remarks between the two.
It comes as no surprise that the fight will take place in the playground of the high-profiled fighters, Las Vegas. The two money boasting brawlers are frequent visitors to “Sin City” for both business and pleasure, but this time, the two certainly mean business.
However, both fighters aren’t short of disadvantages in this match up. Mayweather hasn’t fought since 2015, when he easily outpointed Andre Berto before retiring. Plus, the boxer is 22 years older than Connor.
He may be the first UFC fighter to simultaneously hold titles in two different divisions and one of the most recognisable mixed martial artists in the wold, but “The Notorious” McGregor has never boxed as an amateur or on the professional circuit, and will be making his professional debut against one of the greatest boxers in history.
All the negatives aside, we can’t wait to see the two go at it! Mayweather will be looking to round up his record of 49 consecutive wins to 50, and Connor will be looking to shock the boxing world by taking on “Mr Money Team”.
Who do you think will take the title? We know one thing for certain, no matter who wins, the two will walk away with one seriously impressive pay cheque.
