You may have seen from our Instagram story that we were lucky enough to soak up the Cali sun, whilst jumping around to some incredible performances at the famous Music and Arts Festival.
We’ve put together our favourite live acts so you know who to look out for this weekend.
Kendrick Lamar
Opening with a short film of “Kung Fu Kenny”, a character Kendrick portrayed in acting like the student to a Kung Fu Master. Then, opening his act with his new track, ‘Blood’ then ‘DNA’ (which Kendrick just dropped a sick new vid for this week), with flashing lights and what looks like a ninja performing on stage. King Kunta followed with the image of King Kong in the background. Then, a track from his unofficial album that dropped last year, ‘Untitled Unmastered 07’, maybe one of his most famous and successful songs ‘Swimming Pools’, transitioning into ‘Backseat Freestyle’ and then ‘Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe’.
Fitting into his Kung Fu inspired performance, Kendrick wore a traditional Chinese shirt called a Changshan. There were some specie guests joining Kendrick on stage; Travi$ Scott, ScHoolboy Q and Future.
Kendrick closed the show with his newly released track HUMBLE but later performed LOVE as an encore.
Stormzy
Stormzy made an appearance this past weekend where he brought some British grime to the festival. Getting the mosh-pits hyped, big Mike performed ‘Big For Your Boots’, ‘Shut Up’, ‘Know Me From’ and the remix of Ed Sheerans ‘Shape of you’.
Humbled by the size of his audience, Stormzy spent his time on stage giving it his all and showing his love to the crown by screaming out “It doesn’t matter if you don’t know who the fuck I am. It doesn’t matter if you don’t understand anything I’m saying or the beat – for the next three minutes I want you to [wreck] the place”. We are proud of our Stormzy for going hard and giving California a taste of what we know and love in the UK.
DJ Snake
DJ Snake pulled off an incredible performed and brought out some very special guests.
Migos joined Snake to drop ‘Bad and Boujee’, which set the crowd alight. A real treat for the crowd was when R&B legend, Lauryn Hill walked on stage to perform her classics ‘Ready or Not’ remixed live, followed by ‘Killing Me Softly’.
Bastille
We really enjoyed Bastilles performance. Cool and upbeat, singing all there chart topping songs that the crowd could all chant to on a sunny Saturday.
It wasn’t a huge spectacle, just the band on stage with some crazy graphics on the big screen, but this performance felt way more intimate than others.
Future
We saved the best till last with Future’s performance. He did have a bit of help from Drake, who headlined the festival back in 2015.
The pair performed their collaboration track, ‘Jumpman’, and it went crazy. One of the best vibes and crowd reactions we experienced over the weekend.
