Real Madrid sail through to the semi-final second leg with a three goal advantage, as they move a step closer to reaching their third final in four years.

Real Madrid were in full control throughout the game against their city rivals, but all eyes were on one name, Ronaldo. It took the Portuguese striker just 10 minutes to give Real Madrid the lead, in the first of his three goals of the game. His second goal saw him smash in a half volley straight into the top corner, and his third was a calm and collected finish from outside the six yard box.

It’s a surprise that the game didn’t see more goals as Real Madrid had an array of chances; a near miss from a Ronaldo header and an overhead kick going just over the cross bar from striker, Benzema, should have closed the curtains on Atletico, who only had a single shot on target.

The man is a goal machine; he’s the top scorer in the Champions League with 103 goals, 53 goals in the knock out stages and 13 semi-final goals. Not only that, in his last three Champions League games, he’s bagged himself 8 goals, 6 of which were consecutive hat-tricks. Last night’s triple marks his 47th hat-trick in his career.

With Ronaldo in some serious Champions League form, it will take a minor miracle at the Calderón next Wednesday for Atletico to keep their Champions League dreams alive.

There is more Champions League action tonight as Monaco face Juventus.
