MAN On Campus Student City Guide: Birmingham
Often referred to as England’s second city, Birmingham is full of innovative, eye popping modern architecture and new attractions are opening every single day. Check out our student city guide for the full down low on your new home:
TO EAT:
Situated under railway arches in Birmingham City Centre, every Thursday, Friday and Saturday Digbeth Dining Club plays host to a variety of street food vendors. Whatever food you fancy, they’ll have it here. Occasionally it’s home to special events with craft beer festivals, and special guest DJ’s showing up, so keep your eyes peeled!
Bodega Cantina serves up amazing street food inspired by South American cuisine, from tacos to quesadillas. Their huge cocktail menu makes for the perfect accompaniment to the food. Head down between 12-5PM to check out the lunch deals of street food and drinks for only £6!
TO DRINK:
No doubt you will be enticed by the daily days at The Victoria, from 20% off real and craft ale, to 2 for 1 cocktails at varied times throughout the week. The Victoria also hosts regular live bands, comedians and every weekend the pub is open later with DJ’s playing soul music! If you’re looking for cheap deals and a lively atmosphere the Victoria is the place to be.
With a gin parlour upstairs, and a cocktail emporium downstairs offering 2 cocktails for £9 everyday between noon and 7pm, you’ll have plenty of opportunity to try the many cocktails. For those warmer days, we recommend heading out to the Alice in Wonderland themed beer garden and falling down the rabbit hole of cocktails!
TO DANCE:
Broad Street
Not sure where to go? Head to Broad Street for an array of bars, clubs and restaurants! If you’re looking for the best Birmingham restaurant deals to line your stomach then head to Mooch Bar for a menu covering everything from burgers to rice and noodle dishes. Once you’re finished up here, there’s a whole host of clubs to finish the night in, including Walkabout, The O Bar, Popworld and Revolution to name a few, you’ll never be bored.
Wednesday night at Snobs is student night, with cheap drinks all night long, and dancefloors full of students you’re bound to bump into people you know! Snob Wednesdays are a bit of a ritual with Birmingham students, so if you’ve got a 9am Thursday morning lecture we feel for you.
TO PLAY:
A twisted take on mini golf, Ghetto Golf is always a fun experience! Adorned with graffiti from Birmingham artists, the interior features incredible artwork everywhere. If you’re a student looking for things to do in Birmingham, Ghetto Golf is just the place. Once you’re done, the Apocalypse Cow inside serves up amazing hand pressed burgers and cocktails.
You cannot settle into Birmingham student life without going to Cadburys World at least once. Walking around the factory, you’ll get to see exactly how Cadburys chocolate is made (with a few freebies along the way!) If you really want to make the most of it, try the chocolatier experience – a 2 hour session that teaches you all the tips and techniques of making chocolate. Plus… more free chocolate!
