We caught up with American-born British DJ and record producer Second City to catch up on all things music, career and life ahead of his set at ANTS london show at Fabric tonight!

Where does the name Secondcity come from?

I lived in Chicago when I was a kid, so it came from that as I always thought of it as my second home “city” etc.

What was your inspiration for your no1 hit ‘I wanna feel’?

I was inspired but a lot of the music I grow up listening to thanks for my mum, lots of early 80s/90s house, stuff like Ten City, Fingers inc, Robin S, Paul Johnson to name a few so i really wanted to recreate something from that era basically, so that’s where it all started.

What’s the weirdest thing to happen to you while youre DJing?

I remember djing in Ibiza about 2015, was half through my set and I turned round and behind me was Leonardo DiCaprio & Justin Bieber haha that was pretty weird.

What is your favourite place to DJ?

It’s so hard to pick one place as I have absolutely loved everywhere I have played and I’m always discovering new amazing places to play, but one place I will never forgot is Lost Beach Club in Ecuador, it was unreal!!

Who is the most famous person to DM you?

Don’t know about the most famous but Shaq was a pretty crazy one.

 Best DJ you’ve worked with?

Has to be George Smeddles, have absolutely loved our b2b sets this year and we have some amazing stuff planned for next year already.

Favourite film?

Grand Budapest Hotel.

Favourite TV series?

Office UK & US.

Drink of choice on a night out?

Gin & tonic with lime.

What your best moment of the year so far?

I would say probably playing b2b with George @ Cafe Mambo back in September for ABODE, we had all our friends there and it was just such a good vibe.

What has been your career highlight so far?

Well… I would say my Number 1 as it was just so mad, and never something I set out to do or even think about. So it was amazing to see a record I had written for my sets do so well at such a massive level.

Do you have any plans to go on holiday and not work this year?

Not for this year as I have loads of music to finish off so I’m thinking January I want to take some time out and have a holiday so that is the plan.

Have you got any new music out at the moment?

I’m sitting on loads of music and can’t wait to share some of it soon 😉

What’s the best part of being a DJ?

The travelling side and getting to see new places, meeting new people and sharing music with everyone around the world that is really the best part of it.

Who is your inspiration when it comes to making music?

I’m inspired by so many people but a big inspiration for me would be Masters at Work.

What are you looking forward to most in 2020?

Sharing some big new music, some of it is from very exciting colabs too 😉
